Comments: In school, I was one of those anonymous nerds.   After graduation, I attended USU in Logan, studying chemical engineering, physics and math.   Though I worked at the radio and television station (KUSU) with a radio show and doing camera work, and at a ranch, debeaking turkeys, I had to drop out after three years for financial reasons.   I went to California (where else during the 60's?) and became a forestry firefighter until I was drafted.
Somehow, I ended up in Little Rock, Arkansas, setting up suicide prevention services and working, appropriately, on a peace newspaper.   I finished (at least I thought) my education with a BA in History and Political Science (totally useless degree for honest work).   To actually pay the bills I was a carpenter, restoring historical homes.
Meanwhile, I won several federal cases, challenging Arkansas' election laws.   In 1988, I was elected for one term as Arkansas' only independent state legislator.   The parties succeeded in removing me from the next ballot.   I returned in 1998 and served until that dastardly term limit restriction stopped me.   During my last election, my campaign platform was 'I'm going to raise your taxes.' I only got 71% of the vote.   Next year, I will be the Green Party's candidate for Governor.
In the early 80's I returned to college and earned a BS as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.   I have been working at Ark. Children's Hospital for 20 years (even while in the legislature) working with patients with head injuries and spinal cord trauma.   I tell people that this work prepared me for working with politicians who who often appear brain-damaged and possess weak spines.
